In two workshop sessions, you will get crystal clarity on the “aboutness” of your book: What one solid and clear central idea encapsulates what you want to say with this book Who will be best served by reading it
What content best serves – and delights – your readers
Which structure and organization best serves your work
What route among the options in the publishing landscape best suits your unique goals and needs In “Idea to Outline Part 1” you will:
Acquire a deep understanding of the Idea to Outline tool so you can leverage it for your current and future book projects
Use the tool during the workshop to develop the foundational pieces that will make your book resonate with readers and make you proud
Receive written feedback on your first draft of your Idea to Outline (if completed and sent to me after that day’s session)
In “Idea to Outline Part 2” you will:
Dig deeper into the foundational pieces of your book
Revise your Idea to Outline
Receive written feedback on the second draft of your Idea to Outline (if completed and sent to me after that day’s session)
Discuss “best next steps” so you know what to do to keep going with confidence
(For nonfiction writers, we will discuss whether you need to write a book proposal sooner or later and how to use this tool as the foundation for it)

Who should sign up for the retreat?
This workshop is for fiction or nonfiction writers, including writers of memoir, essays, or short stories. Workshops will be small groups of 6-8 writers.
You DON'T need a degree in writing (or anything else!).
You DON'T need previous publication credits.
You DON’T need a manuscript in progress (but you can have one!)
You will work during the sessions on your own Idea to Outline
You will have time with me (and the other leaders)
You won’t be reading others’ work (though there may be some group discussion of work that is generated during the workshop).
Your creativity and motivation will be IGNITED.
