Identifying Your Ideal Clients

Today’s success story comes to us from Author Accelerator certified book coach Suzette Mullen! She is celebrating a major book coaching milestone: She has narrowed her focus and identified her ideal clients: LGTBQ+ memoir writers who want to share their story with the world!

Tell us more about what we’re celebrating today.

After I put a stake in the ground about my ideal client (LGBTQ+ memoir writers), I landed an ideal client almost immediately. When I said to her, "I'm so excited, you're my ideal client," she replied: "Well, you're my ideal book coach! I know a lot of writing coaches but I wanted to work with someone who would be able to see my story through a queer lens. There's a trust and comfort level working with someone like you. I know I won't have to keep explaining myself."

What did you do to celebrate this achievement?

I said “hooray!” And “Jennie was right!” She’d been encouraging me to narrow my focus and go all in, but I’d been wishy-washy about it, worried that I wouldn’t have enough clients.

What are the next steps in your book coaching career?

I am looking to build collaborative partnerships with LGBTQ+ organizations so I can empower more queer nonfiction writers.
