Gaining Critical Knowledge
Today we’re celebrating Sandra Postma, who just earned her book coach certification!
How did you come to book coaching?
I didn't know book coaching existed until the summer of 2021! I wasn't in a great place due to chronic illness and was looking for a new purpose in my life. I had previously thought of teaching writing in a community setting as a loose idea for the future, but then suddenly via Google I found Author Accelerator and Jennie's work. I knew there and then that this was what I wanted to do with my life. In the months that followed I was proven right.
What was your experience in the Book Coach Certification program? What did you find satisfying? What did you find most challenging?
Even though I have a degree in journalism and done many online writing courses, I learned something new and vital about storytelling and the craft of writing every day during this program. The knowledge I gained has been critical to my coaching AND to my writing. But most of all the confidence I have gained as a coach and as person has been profound. The practicums were definitely challenging to do and to prepare for, but I learned so much about the work and about myself as a coach through doing them. The challenge of it only made me more sure that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life.
What is the most valuable piece of advice you’re taking away from the training?
How important finding your ‘why’ is, as a writer, as the protagonist of your story, as a coach, and as a person in life.
What did you do to celebrate this achievement?
I bought cake for myself and my parents and I celebrated with friends and family online.
What are the next steps in your career?
I can’t wait to find clients and help others develop their story idea and write their books!
Tell us more about your coaching plans.
I started my book coaching business as soon as I enrolled into the training, but I first fully focused on my certification. Now I am certified I hope to help as many people as I can who are struggling with a story they wish to tell, and help them develop and write their book. Writing is hard and comes from such a vulnerable place. I want to help people feel secure and safe as they access the places within themselves that inspire their stories and help them write their books.
