Today’s book coach success story comes to us from Stephanie Dethlefs, who just earned her certification!
How did you come to book coaching?
I am a lifelong writer. I first heard about Author Accelerator through a podcast for writers, but I looked it up when I was trying to figure out how to best utilize my skills as a teacher to help other writers get their stories out into the world.
What was your experience in the fiction certification program?
I learned so much! My own writing practice has completely changed as a result of the program, not to mention the new practical tools I have to give the writers with whom I work. It was incredibly satisfying to put those things in practice with the practicum clients and see the impact it had on their stories! The most challenging part for me was finding the practicum clients.
What is the most valuable piece of advice you’re taking away from the training?
The most valuable takeaway for me is the importance of answering those key questions about the story ahead of time, including uncovering the point the author is trying to make, the cause and effect trajectory, and knowing where the story is heading before sitting down to write.
How did you celebrate the achievement of getting certified?
I texted the people who knew I was waiting for word about certification!
Tell us more about your coaching plans! What are the next steps in your career?
I have a coaching business all set. Now I just need to work on finding clients for whom I'm a good fit! I do have some related classes lined up to teach later this year through other organizations.
