Realizing Your Dream Job Exists

Today’s success story comes to us from Jada Lightning, who just earned her book coach certification!

How did you come to book coaching?

I came across Jennie’s book Read Books All Day & Get Paid for It, which led me to the Blueprint and the whole concept of a book coach! I didn’t know this job existed! I kept applying to PitchWars and Revpit because I longed for someone to mentor me and help me walk through the process of writing a book and it turns out that’s exactly what book coaches do!

What was your experience in the Book Coach Certification program? What did you find most satisfying and most challenging?

I found the certification program thorough and rigorous! It made me happy to go through each practicum with my clients and it struck a deep chord within me that this is my avocation- my heartwork. Practicum three was completely new for me and it was challenging because of its newness, but the certification program gave me the foundation and tools I needed to successfully complete the practicum.

What is the most valuable piece of advice you’re taking away from the training?

Jennie’s discussion on how the nuance of book coaching is something we learn by doing was very encouraging and made me think of one of my favorite quotes: We make the path by walking. That there’s no set pathway to gain expertise in this field other than through hands-on practice.

What did you do to celebrate this achievement?

Nothing just yet! I think I might start the nonfiction course to celebrate.

What are the next steps in your career? Tell us about your book coaching plans.

Next steps are to decide my business niche, core audience and percentage of clients I’d like to book coach while maintaining developmental editing and sensitivity reading. I plan to add coaching to my editorial business!
