Because of Book Coaching…

For today’s blog post, we’re sharing stories from several of our certified book coaches! Many of our students and coaches come to the industry craving a change of pace, more flexibility, and more ownership over their time. We asked our coaches to share more about their first year in business. Take a look at the findings and some thoughts from book coaches below:
I finally have a name for the career I’ve always wanted: book coach! The perfect marriage of storytelling and project management. I’ve always been the type to flood my writing friends with advice and resources, and now I can do it for a living. And is it possible to fall even more in love with books?

I loved that each lesson not only helped me dive deeper into my own craft, but opened my eyes to new writing processes and gave me the language to explain why certain elements in a manuscript did or didn’t work for me. I specialize in crime fiction (mystery, suspense, thriller, etc.), particularly from BIPOC perspectives.
Mia Manansala, author and certified book coach
The past year has been nothing like I imagined, but I accomplished some things that feel significant. I completed the coaching course and earned my certification. I finished rewriting my book and am about to send it off for an assessment. I launched a new career as a book coach and worked with 13 writers on their novels. None of these things would have been possible without Author Accelerator.
Dani Abernathy, certified book coach
I came to book coaching as a writer... Once I had a coach I was blown away. That was exactly what I needed: someone to walk the path with me, not as my superior, but as my guide, cheerleader, and as someone who knew just what my story needed. Over time, I came to see that this is something I can do, too, that this is something I WANT to do, too.
Elli Comeau, author and certified book coach
The most satisfying part [of the program] was when I pulled up my old unfinished manuscript and treated it like a client manuscript. When I started the rewrite, I could actually see how much better it was, and that made me entirely confident that I picked the right path.
Arra Boles, certified book coach
The community support while going through the course and beyond is possibly the best ongoing professional development I could have hoped for as a book editor who went freelance and was looking for her ‘coworkers’ again. I think some lasting connections and virtual friendships will continue to form and grow.
